It starts off like the movie "The Skulls," with money, power and respect, but the rapper Skullz and
his Undaaworld/Skullzangels label have only invitations for those getting down. Then again he isnt your average rapper, he's
a phenomenom.
The impending release of the The Skullz Show mixtape cd, already has fans feinding for Skullz.
His toned voice paints pictures of partying, struggle and pain with conviction. Though at times his lyrics brand the reason
why he is named after a Skull. The 19 cut-collection contains some of the most twisted lyrics and beats ever recorded.
For Skullz, most of his content can be controversial for the Atlanta rapper. "I relate to so many
people in the world," he says."Everywhere I laid had the same drama, same hood, same n***az. Everybody down to ride and roll
out, get money how ever way. I'm scarred for life, the horrors i went thru with my family and alone. It's when i came to Atlanta
I understood the meaning of ballin."
Skullz has become a savior to many soldiers in the rappers Atlanta residence. When he rides through
the hood, Skullz gives love and ambition to his n***az. "WHO WANT IT?" and "GBOY" are two songs ready for the streets, making
Skullz a household name in many cities and hoods. All songs are comprised for the release of "Skullz Is Comin," produced primarily
by Skullz and his Skullzangels logo.
2001, Skullz and formed Undaaworld/Skullzangels. Known in the streets Skullz paired up, with two other
partners(one
locked down), and the other who is also an artist on the label, Mikey Battlez. Soonafter Skullz and Mikey
Battlez were sitting in label offices and recording studios throughout Atlanta, and Los Angeles. Universal record execs were
impressed with Skullz, they were all ears about an imprint deal. Undaaworld/Skullzangels released "Lock Your Doorz"
ATL mixtape cd independantly with their own funding, and sold over 175,000 copies.
2003, Skullz and Mikey Battlez were pursued by Grammy platinum producer Sheke'spere. "I had to
work the streets, always in the studio, writing and producing some hot s**t. We put out G-Boy, and got alot of mixtape dj's
feedback. We followed that up with shows both in the states and overseas.
But like many rappers, Skullz road to riches is as far from easy. Traveling back and forth to
Panama, NY,Cali and Anchorage, Alaska, his father who was in the military, made promises that were never kept. Raised by his
mother, Skullz and his siblings moved away from family in NY and Trinidad, to remote secluded states. Often finding themselves
in homeless shelters and welfare, it was difficult to grow up as a kid. Domestic violence was random in his household.
In '96 Skullz was hustling. Traveling to Chicago, North Dakota, Ten-A-Kee, Texas and all over chopping
it up. Skullz ran with gang affiliated members. Desperate for success in funding himself in music, It wasn't difficult to
get people to believe in him.
In the 90's Skullz, formely known as Bernie Skullz was heard by M.C Lyte for Duke Da Moon, and was
soon in label offices. He also flowed in sessions with Erick Sermon and Def Squad. His previous manager, robbed him
of his clothes and cash, leaving Skullz desperate. It was all or nothing for him, so he dropped the Burning moniker from BurningSkullz,
and perfected his flow, and delivery, game, and acting skillz.
"S**t was real, my homie got bagged up and did 9 months, and i had a situation catch up with me, that i can't disclose.
My management was ruthless and criminal activities had occured, they tried to have me shot and killed, but it didnt happen."
Skullz would soon record "Rosemary's Baby." This record would put him at the similarity of
artists like Dmx, Tupac, and Scarface. He would also grace many internet viewers with MP3s, gaining rave reviews from supporters,
dj's and record labels. If you go on the internet it's not surprising that they catergorize Skullz with grammy nominated winners
such as Eminem, Nelly, and Kanye West.
Through Skullz black cloud, and difficult upbringing, and his mothers disablilites, hiphop can't say
no to his stories or his voice. He lays it down with Godspeed, and can make you laugh and make you cry. Overall Skullz production
and lyrics will have listeners hypnotized.
"Im living this out for my n***az that can't be here, either dead or locked up,"he says. " I'm thankful
for breathing. I am my brothers keeper.
It's now or never, my moms lost her sight, so i have to be her eyes now. I am the Skullz."
